Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra
Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra invited participants from industry, government, universities and media to brainstorm ideas on what needs to be taken into consideration when preparing the national natural resources strategy. After the strategy was final, stakeholders and general public were invited again to propose projects which should be initiated to implement the strategy.Both of these ”Open network surveys” were implemented using Fountain Park’s virtual brainstorming method. The results were presented to Finnish Prime Minister in the spring of 2009. A few months later, the strategy won the first prize in the national competition of the European Business Awards for the Environment.

The National Natural Resources Strategy is unique because it examines natural resources and their inter-linkages across sector boundaries, and covers both the use and protection perspectives over a sufficiently long timescale. We received the award for the way in which the strategy was prepared. It is fantastic that this has also been taken note of in the EU’s environment competition.”
