Managing director and founder Mikko Kuitunen, ICT-company Vincit Oy, has written a very good article on Fakta magazine (February 2016). He argues that the strategy processes need a new approach and tells about his experience how the staff members become committed to the strategy if they are able to tell their stories about the future of the company.
In a similar way the top management should renew their own approach. They should participate actively in the strategy process and not only concentrate on the evaluation of the strategy documents. Luckily there is a new generation of top managers who see the strategy being a tool for all staff members.
People become committed if they are able to join strategy process. Moreover, the researchers of swarm intelligence have found that the more people are involved the better results can be found. Thus a successful strategy process may result in the best possible future opportunities and people who are committed to reach them.
