The Association of Finnish Municipalities utilized Virtual Brainstorming in their strategy work

Extensive participation in strategy work

All members, municipalities, cities, and the association’s own experts and staff were involved in the Association of Finnish Municipalities’ strategy work and value discussion. Markus Pauni, head of the Finnish Association of Finnish Municipalities’ strategy and development unit, explains how the involvement was implemented in practice with the help of the Virtual Brainstorming, and what kind of results the joint development produced.

Discussing the meaning of values online

In the co-operation implemented in the spring of 2019, the special need of the Association of Finnish Municipalities was to have a value discussion alongside strategy work. According to Pauni, utilizing the already familiar Virtual Brainstorming service was convenient, as it brought together a large number of people in an efficient, fast, and high-quality way to express their views on certain themes online. Nearly 300 representatives of the association brainstormed the values ​​and the basic mission of the Association of Finnish Municipalities.

“What is particularly good about Fountain Park’s product is that the respondent can also prioritize the issues presented by other respondents on the dartboard, which means that we as a subscriber can effectively obtain information about what kind of issues the respondents consider most important,” Pauni says.

After the participation itself, a result report was produced for the Association of Finnish Municipalities, which themed and combined the value proposition, which the Association of Finnish Municipalities evaluated and discussed with its trustees in the delegation. With the discussions, the value choices ​​materialized. The result was a new strategy for the Association of Finnish Municipalities, “An impactful partner for local government” and values ​​that you can find out more about on the association’s website.
